Bex’s Blog Takeover Week 10 - Stick your Boom! Peter Badge
Week Ten. How the time has flown.
To celebrate our tenth post I’ve decided to be nostalgic and create the Boom! Peter Badge (If you don’t get it ask an adult)
You will need paper/thin card, scissors, pens/pencils, clear tape.
First you need to decide how big you want your badge to be. I’ve gone for the average birthday badge size (6cm).
It’s up to you if you cut it before or after designing it. I find it helps me to cut it before so I can see the space im working with.
It’s now time to design your badge. I very loosely based mine on a combination of the Boom! Logo and a ship shape (once again ask an adult or google it – Beware the Tracey Island tales) you are welcome to follow my design or create your own.*
Once you have made your badge you will need to be able to stick it. One option is the traditional “safety pin taped to the back” badge. However I thought it would be more fun to make it into a sticker.
You’ll want a clear smooth surface to start this. Stick overlapping strips of tape vertically to the surface. Make sure that it is both wider and longer than your badge.
Then make a tape badge sandwich layering the tape horizontally, overlapping the same way.
When finished smooth out any air bubbles and it should look a little like this.
Gently remove whole tape sandwich from the surface making sure that it comes away intact.
Some tapes will not work for this but unfortunately there is no way to know which will except for experimenting. Never use your best design on an untested tape. My biodegradable tape didn’t work on its own but it did work well on duct-tape.
When you have a good tape sandwich trim the extra tape away to give it a clean sharp edge. Make sure you leave a tape connection edge to prevent it falling apart. This can also give a nice outline effect.
*Using a pencil lightly draw a central post. On one end add a tutu style skirt, this is your paintbrush. From the brush draw out a curved paint splat. Add some drops up the sides to give a boat shape (curved longboat) Add a “B” in bubble writing to create a sail on one side. Colour and outline to your preference.
We love seeing your work and adaptations share them with us @ twitter @boom_arts or www.facebook.com/BoomCommunityArts and as always please send comments to heather@boomcommunityarts.com
Once again this is the last project in this Ten week block of Bexs Boom! Blog Takeover. I hope you have enjoyed the projects and I look forward to seeing you all out in the real world someday.
