Boom! At the Claypits: The North Canal Heritage Sculptures Project

The North Canal Heritage Sculptures Project is an initiative launching in 2022 at the Hamilton Claypits Nature Reserve. This initiative will see Artist Nichol Wheatley bring to life your memories, aspirations and responses to nature for three new public artworks installed permanently around the Claypits.
We’d love the sculptures to be inspiring, engaging and to reflect the experiences of the local community ... That’s where you come in!
Boom Community Arts are looking for your responses to the themes of Memory, Aspiration and Nature, which will be interpreted by Nichol as words and symbols to decorate the sculptures. These sculptures themselves will take the form of an Elephant, representing Memory, a Unicorn, representing Aspiration and a Mouse, representing Nature, while their surfaces will be decorated with your thoughts, hopes and memories.
You can contribute to the project virtually, through our Community Contributions Form, or in person, through two drawing workshops lead by Danielle Banks. To get your creativity flowing, the workshops will include a short walk at the Hamilton Claypits to gain inspiration from nature. The two workshops will take place at The Courtyard (2 Wester Common Drive, Glasgow G22 5PG) on Saturday 28th May at 1.30-4pm and Saturday 11th June at 1.30-4pm. If you would like to attend, please let us know via our Workshop Signup Form.
The North Canal Heritage Sculptures Project is supported by the National Lottery Heritage fund and Glasgow City Council.
